Amy J. Dyck is a contemporary multimedia figurative artist based near Vancouver, British Columbia. Working across painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture, she creates hybrid figures that occupy the shifting territory between human and animal, beauty and unease, fragmentation and wholeness.
Dyck’s deeply autobiographical practice explores the complexity of identity, memory, adaptation, and the ways difficult experiences shape the selves we become. Her figures are neither wholly human nor wholly other; they embody the contradictions, defenses, vulnerabilities, and unexpected strengths that accumulate within us. Drawing on classical approaches to the human figure alongside playful experimentation and mixed-media processes, Dyck develops recurring visual worlds in which psychological and emotional states become physical forms.
Collage is central to her process, providing a space for intuitive experimentation and the development of new forms. These explorations may evolve into larger oil paintings, sculptures, or other iterations as ideas move between materials and scales.
Dyck has exhibited extensively throughout British Columbia, including at Vernon Public Art Gallery, Gibsons Public Art Gallery, The Reach Gallery Museum, Penticton Art Gallery, Chilliwack Museum and Archives, and other public and artist-run galleries. Her work has been featured in publications including Uppercase, Create Magazine, American Art Collector, and CBC Arts, and she has received numerous national and international awards. In 2024, she was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Explore and Create grant.
Her work is held in private collections in Canada, the United States, and internationally.
