Christmas Red, Anenome Flower. Chrysanthemum.

If there had been coloured photography with macro and zoom features possible, Emily Sartain might not have been inspired to paint wild flowers as if discovering each minute and accurate detail. This painting minutely describes several different stages and angles of the flower heads. The leaves are defined and arranged in a composition that occupies the whole image space. Highly respected in Canada and internationally, Sartain won the Gold Medal at the Winchester Horticultural Society, and the Silver Medal at the Royal Horticultural Society in England for this painting. Good condition. Painting part of this artwork is clear and unmarred but the painting surface, the substrate, is acid containing and has yellowed over time. The back of the painting is inscribed with detailed information. The substrate has been cut down to fit a frame but none of the painted image has been lost in doing so.
