1919-1988 → Gershon Iskowitz was a Polish-born Canadian Jewish artist who’s life and work showed remarkable resilience in the face of despair. During World War II, Iskowitz was interned in Nazi concentration camps for over two years; he was compelled to draw with whatever materials he could find in order to survive. He arrived in Toronto following his release, where he began a new life. Ihor Holubizky’s work Gershon Iskowitz: Life & Work is the source for Art Canada Institute‘s January newsletter and is well worth a read.
