Artwork:
Gordon Davis. Dancing Flowers. Acrylic on board. No date.
In this vibrant still life, Gordon Davis uses bold color and expressive brushwork to create a dynamic interplay between observation and abstraction. A deep blue vase anchors the composition amid glowing oranges, reds, and golds, while the bouquet’s fractured petals echo the abstract painting in the background, blurring the line between still life and artistic reflection. Thick, gestural strokes and palette-knife textures emphasize the physicality of paint, capturing not realism but the emotional energy of light, color, and creative process.
Artist:
Gordon Davis has painted most of his life. From his West Vancouver studio, he creates mostly acrylic paintings that verge on expressionism and uses bold colours in his landscapes and still lifes.
Davis completed art courses at a number of institutions, including the Alberta College of Art, University of California, University of Mexico, and Le Centre de Arts, France. He is a member of the North Shore Artists Guild and the Federation of Canadian Artists, and has exhibited at a number of galleries in and around Calgary and Metro Vancouver. He teaches painting at the West Vancouver Seniors Centre, West Vancouver and at Painters Lodge, Campbell River.

The Canadian Art Preservation Foundation posts short biographies and information on artists and artwork from its collection in a not-so-subtle attempt to capture your attention and interest in our mission, but we also just want to keep this artwork in view. We are excited about the art we collect and want to share it with you.
CAPF is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the artwork of Canada’s superstar artists for future generations to examine, study and exhibit – the ones you know and the ones you might not know so well. We accept artwork, journals, notes, letters, exhibition catalogues and anything else that might comprise a visual and/or intellectual “portrait” (ahem, please pardon the pun) of a particular artist.
