Estevan Light
19/75
1995
The towering light house on Estevan Island and the outbuildings first capture attention. As one inspects further, the cresting waves in the foreground and the distant fog behind the trees pull the eye upwards to the sun's rays.
The contrasts in scale are key elements of this image:
detail up close (waves), lack of detail in the distance; height of close trees versus the distant trees; height of the light house compared to the single story buildings.
The beauty of this image is in the balance of warm and cool colors.
This print is Number 19 of an edition of 75 and 7 Artist Proofs and 7 Publisher Proofs.
The Artist has hand printed with 24 impressions on each original print from 7 hand carved woodblock plates.
Each original print has been hand pulled on acid free, natural colour Kieuki Hosh (pure Japanese grown Kozo), 8 Monme (heavy weight) paper.
The image and framing are excellent on the front, but the backing board is discoloured and there is a scratch indentation. There is a envelope on the back containing a Certificate of authenticity which describes the special paper he used to create this image.
