Little Yellow House
Original
2011
This brightly coloured abstract painting of an orange house evokes a warm evening light. Surrounded by patches of blue, green and various other colours suggesting shadows and foliage. Is the creamy white above the house a cloud or a roof? Is the house an adobe one, with tiny windows to keep out a brilliant light? Is the pink shape an awning?
This painting allows for free range of your imagination. Figuring out an abstract is half the fun of looking at paintings.
With a delightful sense of humour, this artist signs her paintings on the lower front with "me" in lower case for Marion Evamy.
The paint is applied in impasto style to create textural quality to the surface. The cool tones of the background balance with the hot ones making it easier for the eyes to concentrate on the the picture as a whole.
*An Italian word for “mixture,” used to describe a painting technique wherein paint is thickly laid on a surface, so that brushstrokes or palette knife marks are visible.
